Girl from the Refrigerator

from Silver Linings by Ryan Oyer

/

about

We often practice at Mike Salter’s family home. On the fridge is an article about their daughter Paige in the lead roll of “Guys and Dolls”. One night at a gig, she just happened to be there with a group of friends. They sang along during my set. At a break I came over to thank the table for singing along and I said to Paige “oh I know you, you’re the girl from the refrigerator”. I later recalled the story to Mike and he said “Buddy, That’s a song!”

lyrics

There's a girl on the refrigerator
in a clipping from a magazine
She's singing sold out shows
from New York to New Orleans
Well I guess that you could say that she's living the dream
But she's the girl from the refrigerator to me

She's got her mama's looks and her daddy's harmony
Once or twice I even caught her singing along with me
I took one look and asked, do you know what I see?
Well it’s the girl from the refrigerator to me

And don't she play her part so well?
In a cast of thousands well she somehow found herself
Acting out on stage for all the world to see
And she's the girl from the refrigerator to me

Loading up my gear as they pull my name from the marquee
I'm heading home I haven't seen my Mom for weeks
My sister opens up the door but do you know what I see?
Well it's the girl from the refrigerator to me

She tells me about how sometimes she questions everything
Who she is and who she was and who she's meant to be
Don't you think it's funny how she's just like you and me
But she's the girl from the refrigerator to me

And won't she play her part so well?
In a cast of millions she will somehow find herself
To become everything that she was meant to be
‘Cause she's the girl from the refrigerator to me
Yeah she's the girl from the refrigerator to me
She's the girl from the refrigerator to me
